Is Minecraft actually a hard game?

Minecraft is a sandbox game, developed by Mojang Studio, in which players interact with 3D environment made from blocks and entities. The game has been a phenomenon since its release date in 2011, because its potential is unlimited, as long as players are creative enough. There have been numerous discussions over the difficulty of the game, some say that Minecraft is a hardcore game, others claim that the game is entertaining enough to be an easy game to complete. In this topic, we shall share the thoughts on the game, whether Minecraft is a tough game.

Game modes overall

Basically, Minecraft has 4 game modes, including Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Spectator. In the Java Edition of the game, there is one additional mode: Hardcore. In Survival mode, players will need to survive, by collecting materials to build, craft and gain experience point. There are elements namely health, hunger, armor, and oxygen when underwater…. to keep an eye on. If the health bar runs out, or in this game, hearts run out, you will die and respawn at certain points, loosing your items.

Creative mode is for players who want to build great structures and experimenting, while they have access to unlimited amount of materials and items. Players are also immortal, health is not a concern, and they can fly across the map. There are also some items that are not available in Survival mode in the Creative gameplay. When playing Adventure mode, players can interact with objects such as levers, buttons, and mobs. However, they can only use certain tools to break blocks, as decided by the designer. This mode is great to explore the maps. About the Spectator mod, players can clip through blocks and fly in free will, but they can not interact with either blocks or their inventory. Spectators can also have the perspective of other entities by clicking on them. The special Hardcore mode is similar to Survival mode, but the difficulty level is permanently set to “Hard”, players will not spawn after dying. After their death, players will not be able to interact with the world, and must either delete the map or switch to Spectator mode.

These modes above are all basic to a sand box game, hence the actual challenges are Survival mode and Hardcore mode, which require players to perform well or else they will end up dying over and over.

Elements that are challenging – Hardcore mode – Creativity

In Survival mode, the challenging factor is how to survive, especially during nights with deadly monsters. You will need to find a shelter during nights, make tools to get better equipment. The basic Survival mode will be less challenging when you spend about 1-2 days in game, becoming familiar with the game mechanics. It is only a hard game when you are not used to the game, and do not have enough knowledge to survive, especially Hardcore, in which you will not respawn after death. Besides health that drops down when falling or fighting, hunger can also kill players if they do not spend enough attention. Another challenge for players is in Creative mode, in which players will make use of their own creativities. Each player has the distinguish style, therefore it is hard to determine them to a single standard. The true tough thing is how players operate the world with their minds.

Conclusion

From the writer’s perspective, Minecraft is not a tough game to conquer. With 4 game modes, players can find their suitable mode to enjoy, the hard one is in Hardcore mode, which is suitable for players with experiences. You can also challenge your own creativity in Creative mode. The game is actually suitable for young gamers, as long as they have good adaptation skills. What do you think of this?
