If you have played through many stealth action games, then Assassin’s Creed is not a strange name. The game is praised by the gaming community for its novelty in gameplay and context. And after 2 years of absence, this cult game series has returned with the latest installment in the series – Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. So what has changed from this game compared to its predecessor? Is this Ubisoft’s best Assassin’s Creed game?
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla puts the player in the time of the Viking invasion of England in 873 AD. The game plot follows Eivor, a mighty Viking warrior. His tribe was suddenly massacred and only he and his brother Sigurd survived. Out of hatred, two Viking brothers went to England to create a new empire and avenge their tribe. Overall, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla still follows the main character’s motif of revenge for his family like the plot in previous parts.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla will keep the role-playing action style that has brought success to its two predecessors, Assassin’s Creed: Origin and Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. The combat system in Valhalla will be based on the Odyssey with many changes. Most of the time you will fight more than stealthily assassinate each target to match the style of Viking warriors. Your character will have 2 strong and light attacks, and strong attacks will help you knock off enemy shields. Valhalla also re-introduced the system of calling guilds to help in battles, you can either take it all on your own or call your friends and turn that place into a real battlefield.
Eivor can learn more skills each time he leveled up and can use them in battle. In addition, you can learn more tricks in the books scattered throughout the map. You can equip up to 8 skills (including 4 melee and 4 ranged), assisting in combat. Skills in the game are very strong but players should not use too much, because the number of uses is also limited by the skill energy bar.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla also introduces a new feature called the stamina bar. The health bar will drop when you use dodge, strong attack or miss the target. And when Eivor runs out of stamina, he won’t be able to dodge or use his shield to block attacks. This is a pretty cool feature, it makes you have to manage resources effectively, instead of spam attacks constantly like in Odyssey. The stamina bar also heals itself after a while if you don’t attack, or use light attacks on the target that will restore a certain amount.
The healing system has also been changed. Now your health bar will no longer magically heal automatically, but you must find foods like fruit or meat to heal. Food you can store for later, if you want to store a lot of food, you have to upgrade the storage bag.
The game will let the player choose the character’s gender. But instead of going through the game, you can change the gender of the character at any time. You can choose male, female or let the game choose for you based on the character stats and this feature will not change the content in the game.
Graphics Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is quite well invested and realistic. You will feel England in its dark ages. Villages or cities are also designed quite vividly in appearance in parallel with shabby small houses and injured people affected by the wars in the vicinity. All details are provided by the publisher to bring players the truth to life.
The sound is simulated by the game quite well, when the battle is about to happen, there will be a music playing to add drama to the game. When moving on the boat, the members accompanying you can also sing to create less boredom for the game.
Although there are still some disadvantages, but Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla is still a game worth playing. If you like open world games, you will feel very excited when playing Valhalla. The change in gameplay also makes the game more challenging but not too difficult for those who are just starting to play this series.
